Japanese authorities have confirmed that a tenth case of suspected mad cow disease was, in fact, mad cow (BSE). The dairy cow died earlier on in the week, its cascass has not gone on to the market, they say.
The cow was 95 months old, a Holstein dairy cow. It had bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE or Mad Cow), said Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
Japan is the only country in Asia to have confirmed that it had/has cases of Mad Cow. Its first case was discovered three years ago.
Every cow in Japan is now screened when it goes to slaughter.
This cow is the same age as the other six that previously died of BSE, it was born in 1996.
